My Code of Ethics

These are the top 6 things I strive to demonstrate in my work and actions.

Truthfulness

Journalism has taught me that being truthful in my thoughts, actions, and words has an immense impact on myself and the people around me. Being truthful and striving to report the truth are very important to me, and I will practice them for my entire life.

Open-Mindedness

Having an open mind to a wide array of people, things, emotions, and ideas is one of the only ways I have succeeded in life. Without being open to different sides of conversations, opinions, and stories, you limit your ability to learn and grow. Learning and growing through conversation and applying that to your daily life can only be achieved through being open-minded.

Kindness

Being kind is kind of my thing. I try to be as kind and polite as I can be to everyone that I come across. This isn’t to brag or anything, this is just part of who I am. I always treat people how I would like to be treated, and I think taking the time to be kind can have a positive impact on how we interact with each other. We are conditioned to think that we are all very different from one another and that we will never be able to get along, but we have much more in common than we think. Taking the time to ask people about their lives and showing them kindness will help us close the divide between us.

Diversity

I do my best work when I am surrounded by a diverse group of people and ideas. Diversity has been a core value of mine for a long time, and as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, it affects me daily and is something I honor greatly.

Responsibility

As a journalist, I have a responsibility to serve the public with accuracy, objectivity, and fairness. Responsibility is something that I honor and will practice in everything that I do, especially when it comes to reporting.

Accuracy

It is very important to be accurate with your work, especially in today’s climate. Being accurate is crucial in every story, and it is necessary to maintain your reputation. I strive to be accurate in everything I do, and this has led me to fact-check often.
